"Perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away." -- Antoine de Saint-Exupery
This site was originally created during the summer of 1998, while I was a graduate student at the University of Texas. After I graduated in 2000, I moved the site to IO.COM. In 2006, I bought my domain name and moved the site there, where it is hosted by Pair.
My original design inspiration came from Piet Mondrian, who used squares of primary colors in his later paintings. I originally used the brightest yellow, red, and blue, but toned it down when I re-designed the site in 2000. Each of the three main sections of the website uses one of the primary colors (personal is in red, projects in yellow, and writings in blue).
I intend for as much of this site as possible to use valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional. I might eventually move to 1.0 Strict or 1.1, but don't see the point right now.
I created this site using the pico text editor on files in a Unix account. From 1999 to 2005, I updated the site using Dreamweaver 3 and BBEdit 5.1. I now use TextWrangler 2.2 and Transmit 3.5 on a Macintosh (currently, a Core Duo running System 10.4.9).
